London - The British government has opened a new public research centre that will deal with the oil and gas de-commissioning in the North Sea. Funded with 100 million euros, the centre aims to become a global leader in decommissioning as well as academic research into the North Sea area.

Based in Newburgh, Scotland, it will be an “opportunity to establish a centre of excellence in the North-East of Scotland which will develop new capabilities, skills and jobs to meet the decommissioning challenge now and in the years ahead,” said Scotland’s parliamentary undersecretary Lord Duncan.
