Spain wants to transform lighthouses in hotels

Madrid - Puertos del Estado, the government agency which controls Spain’s Port Authorities, has launched an initiative that encourages the use of lighthouses as lodging, as reported by the Minister for Public Works Ana Pastor

Madrid - Puertos del Estado, the government agency which controls Spain’s Port Authorities, has launched an initiative that encourages the use of lighthouses as lodging, as reported by the Minister for Public Works Ana Pastor.

The initiative will be launched immediately, via public concessions given to private companies. Puertos del Estado is developing a report to establish the measures taken to ensure the compatibility of the use of lighthouses for this purposes.

Today, the coastal network of marine aids to navigation consists of 547 visual, acoustic, electronic or wireless devices to facilitate the safety of navigation, of which 187 are lights.

Of these, 28 are now visitor centres or exhibition halls, while there are 12 training centres, laboratories and research centres in five, seven have cafes or restaurants inside and one is an aquarium .
