Genoa - The maritime company GNV has announced the opening of a biweekly freight line between the ports of Trapani and Livorno. Matteo Catani, Managing Director of GNV, “After having successfully strengthened the services to support the operators of Eastern Sicily through investments in Termini Imerese, we intend the opening of this new Motorway of the Sea to respond to the specific needs of Trapani’s transport companies and logistical platforms, which are particularly active in the Tuscan paper and winegrowing supply chain in Western Sicily.” A press release says that GNV and the Port System Authority of the Western Sicilian Sea have started a process that aims to increase traffic and exploit the complementarity of the network’s ports: the Company has had a presence in Sicily since 1993, and has worked to strengthen the dense network of connections between Sicily and the Tyrrhenian backbone by introducing the new Livorno-Trapani line. The service that will connect the ports of Livorno and Trapani complements the five connections to Sicily that the company already operates. Pasqualino Monti, president of the Port System Authority of the Western Sicilian Sea, commented, “We are happy about the introduction of this new line because despite the current lack of a port offering the required infrastructure, our ports are there and want to be used. We are aware that we have started down a path that is not without obstacles: the growth phase that we are undertaking will be long and very demanding.”
