Tallin - It was held in Tallinn (Estonia) during the Baltic Sea Ports and Shipping event (27-29th September) the presentation of Circle, Italian Company providing process and management consulting services, innovative technological solutions and digital marketing solutions for transport and logistics sector, and known for the development of MILOS®, an innovative modular software for the optimization of transport of every kind of cargo. Circle’s CEO Mr. Luca Abatello has expressed during his speech - entitled “Automation, integration and interoperability along the supply chain: Concrete opportunities of building terminal optimization and International Fast Trade Lanes” - the need for specific steps forward on Customs and Maritime procedures between Baltic Sea Area and Extra-EU Area, and underlined that relevant opportunities in process optimization should be taken. The Baltic Region is one of top areas focusing on the research into new technologies. Ports in the Baltic Sea are preparing to provide access to larger ships (the number of ships navigating through the Baltic Sea has decreased highlighting a trend towards larger vessel sizes, as Mr. Abatello mentioned) with connected appropriate infrastructure, loading/unloading services and digitalization of processes. According to EU Dir 2010/65 (more specifically, to Article 5 about Electronic transmission of data and to Article 7 about Information in FAL forms) & European Union Customs Code (applied since 2016, May 1st), Vessels arriving from NON-EU Countries to Baltic Sea Countries have to fulfill formalities dealing with new processes and new IT systems interfaced with the EU National Maritime Single Windows. This means that Ship owners, Agents and Ports are adapting their systems and during 2017 all digital services are expected to be improved. At the same time shippers, MTOs and freight forwarders are testing
