Genoa - Details of the tender for the preliminary and final execution of design and engineering services for the breakwater and dredging works envisaged in the revised first implementation phase of the Europa Platform project have been delivered to EU authorities. The details included the environmental impact study, and related assessment. The timescale for the works, comprised under the Port Master Plan, has been modified by the ADSP of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea. “The project’s plan also allows for a reduction in the time and costs required for its completion, thanks to alternative methods of managing marine sediments, while respecting the functional and architectural requirements of the infrastructure,” explained the Authority. The new plan envisages works such as the demolition of the Meloria dam and its replacement by a new curved dam. There are also plans for the construction of the North dam, and new breakwaters to protect the dock at the future container terminal against the effect of the waves. “The tender also includes design of the access channel to the new port area, the harbour basin, and dredging activities needed to connect the existing port areas with the new basin. The tender, which will be awarded to the most cost-competitive bid, has a cost estimate of three million.”
