Romania’s seaports cargo traffic down 0.2 pct in 2017

Constanta - Romania’s seaports handled 46.18 million tonnes of cargo in 2017, down 0.2 percent on the year, National Institute of Statistics (INS) data show. The country has seven maritime ports, Constanta being the largest, with 81 percent of Romania’s maritime cargo traffic in 2017. Import cargo traffic rose by 3.5 percent and export cargo traffic declined 3.8 percent during the year. Major commodities which registered high cargo traffic in 2017 include agricultural products (66.7 percent of exports) and petroleum, oil & lubricants (27.8 percent of imports). The main international partners of Romania in cargo traffic are Russia (21.3 percent), Turkey (15.8 percent), Egypt (6.5 percent), Spain (4.7 percent) and Greece (4.5 percent), according to official data.
