Zurich - The Swiss group ABB has secured a $ 300 million order from South Korean shipbuilding company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) to supply propulsion and power generation systems for six new vessels that will be used for the transport of liquefied natural gas on the Arctic route.
Each of the six ships will be equipped with three Azipod engines of the Swiss group for a total power of 51MW that will allow the units to navigate in waters with ice up to 2.1 meters thick. The six icebreakers, which will have a unit capacity of 170 thousand cubic meters, will be delivered starting from 2023 and will be used in the service of the Arctic LNG 2 project
