Egypt, Finnish Deltamarin sign MoU to establish first floating power plant

Cairo - A group of Egyptian companies, including the state-owned Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), have signed on Thursday an MoU with the Finnish shipbuilding company Deltamarin to build a ship that would serve as the country’s first floating power plant. MoU Egypt s Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker witnesses the signing of an MoU between Egyptian companies and the Finnish shipbuilding company Deltamarin to establish a floating powerplant in Egypt.

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker witnessed the signing of the MoU. Alexandria Shipyard Company (ASY) and Tanmeia Consulting and Engineering Services Company were signatories to the MoU. Establishing floating power plants aims to deal with emergency malfunctions in any coastal city or cities close to the coasts on the Mediterranean, Ayman Hamza, a spokesperson for the electricity ministry, told Sky News on Thursday. Floating power plants are unlike floating wind stations where power generation turbines are fixed and are difficult to move, Hamza added.
