The "Sun Princess"

Genoa – “Sun Princess”, the first of two LNG (liquefied natural gas) cruise ships for Princess Cruises, was delivered last 14th February at the Monfalcone shipyard. The ship will remain at the Monfalcone shipyard for further technical work.

At approximately 178,000 gross tons, “Sun Princess” is the largest ship to date built in Italy, as well as the first LNG cruise ship ever built by Fincantieri and the first dual-fuel ship powered primarily by LNG to enter the Princess fleet.

Liquefied natural gas is the most advanced, mature, scalable and commercially viable fuel technology for the maritime industry. It is also considered one of the cleanest fossil fuels as it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and almost completely eliminates other air emissions and particulate matter. “Sun Princess” is the first in Princess Cruises' Sphere class, which includes a sister ship scheduled for delivery in 2025. Each will accommodate approximately 4,300 people and is based on a next-generation platform design. Lloyd's Register is pleased to have shared its expertise and reliable advice on the delivery of the “Sun Princess” vessel. Princess Cruises is a leading international shipping company that operates a fleet of 16 modern cruise ships, transporting millions of guests each year to 330 destinations around the world.
