Genoa - It will be a major event this coming Spring, with boats shown in the water and on land. According to sources close to the planning body, Nautica Italiana has already chosen Liguria, and Genoa in particular, to host the first exhibition to be held by the association of brands that recently left UCINA. According to leaks from some operators in the sector, in fact, large yachts will be shown simultaneously in three locations in the Ligurian capital: Fiera, Porto Antico and Marina Aeroporto. And that’s not all: at the same time other units will be positioned in the Gulf of Tigullio, boats shown in Portofino and Santa Margherita will have the best positions, since an event dedicated to the luxury market will be held there. The project is already quite far along: in recent days, a delegation consisting of Nautica Italiana’s leadership, including Giovanna Vitelli (Azimut/Benetti), Lamberto Tacoli (Ferretti) and Alberto Amico (Amico & Co.), met with the President of the Region of Liguria, Giovanni Toti, and won his approval for the project.

Additional details were then settled at the beginning of this week in Milan, where the last assembly of the association, which is affiliated with the Altagamma Foundation, was held. There is only one unknown now. The goal is hold the first edition of the show in 2016, but there is little time left to organise it. The puzzle will probably be solved on 11 December, at Nautica Italiana’s first plenary assembly, which will take place in Viareggio. It will be the associated brands who will make the decision - there are over 50 brands in the association - and their total revenue exceeds €1.2 billion. These companies could opt to hold the first fair in 2017 instead, which would give them over a year to plan it, and in the meantime, to organise some minor events, either in Liguria or in other parts of Italy (there has been talk of a possible agreement with the Fiera di Milano during the Salone del Mobile). At this point, if President Tacoli’s project should go forward, Genoa would have three annual events dedicated to the yacht sector: the Boat Show organised by UCINA in October, a second-hand exhibition in April, also organised by UCINA, and Nautica Italiana’s new show, also in the Spring. The latter fair may also seal a deal with the Myba Charter Show, the mega yacht exhibition that will take place in the Ligurian capital next May.
