Shanghai, traffic slows down in May

Shanghai - Container traffic in the port of Shanghai recorded in May a decrease for the sixth consecutive month being equal to 3,62 million teu, with a decrease of -3.7% compared to May 2020. In the first five months of the year the traffic of the containers has been pairs to 16,46 million teu, with a contraction of the -7,4% on the corresponding period of 2019.

Furthermore, last month the total volume of freight traffic handled by SIPG in the port of Shanghai, which generally is more than 80% of the entire freight traffic handled in port, stood at 43 , 10 million tons, with a drop of -8.9% on May 2019, a negative trend that has been in place for 14 months consecutively. In the first five months of 2020, goods traffic handled by SIPG was 192.57 million tons (-14.8%).
