Costa Cruises sells Victoria to the San Giorgio del Porto shipyards

What will be the fate of this cruise ship? The hypotheses are two: the dismantling at a shipyard certified for demolitions following European regulations or its conversion into a floating hotel for the workers employed at the industrial sites managed by SGdP

Genoa - Costa Crociere sold the Costa Victoria ship to the San Giorgio del Porto Group: the ship would have been sold to Genova Trasporti Marittimi, a company controlled by the Genoese shipyard. At the moment, no official mention is made by the Carnival group company. Entering service in 1996, the Victoria is a relatively "young" ship, so it could still sail several years with another shipowner. But the coronavirus emergency reduced the chances of finding a buyer and forced her to end her adventure early. Even before the outbreak of the pandemic, the Carnival Corpotation & Plc group. he had announced the exit of some older ships from the fleet and the choice of "Victoria" seemed almost obvious: his cruises had been scheduled only until next autumn. Covid-19 only accelerated a decision already made.

What will be the fate of this cruise ship? The hypotheses are two: the dismantling at a shipyard certified for demolitions following European regulations or its conversion into a floating hotel for the workers employed at the industrial sites managed by SGdP. In the meantime, the unit should be moved from Civitavecchia (Rome), where it is currently in "cold" disarmament, to Piombino (Tuscany). If the first hypothesis were chosen, San Giorgio del Porto could carry out the preparatory operations for dismantling and then turn the ship to another shipyard; but it could also act on its own, being the only Italian industry certified for this type of operation (it demolished the Costa Concordia ship). The "deconstruction" of a ship is a fundamental theme for the next few years, and the two Genoese companies have already shown their ability to manage these complicated processes. If instead it were decided to transform the ship into accommodation, the Marseille location (where Costa and SGdP participate in the management of the Chantier Naval de Marseille) would be privileged. This news will sadden the many lovers of this ship which still represents the old style favored by the Costa family. "Victoria" is the last ship in the fleet conceived before Costa joined the Carnival group.
