Bunker prices surged +300% in five years

Warsaw - November 18, during the UN Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC - COP19 ), Simon Bennett, Director of External Relations of the ICS pointed out that with the full support the entry into force worldwide in January 2013 the amendment to the MARPOL Convention, shipping is the first industry to have a binding global regime to reduce emissions of CO2.

He also explained that the fuel is the highest operating cost of shipping : only in the last five years, fuel prices have increased by about 300% and expected further increases in the 50 % - 100 % for the obligation of the use of fuel with low sulfur content for most ships, more the new IMO regulations to improve the efficiency of new ships, the mandatory application of the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plans is giving a further boost to fuel efficiency measures already adopted by much of the industry with measures such as reducing speed , and trim the trim ( the balance of weight that determines how ships move through the water).
