Venice - Clean-up operations ended in the late morning, after local firefighters spent the whole night extinguishing the fire that broke out aboard the bulk carrier “Star Maria”, while she was docked at the port of Venice, on Wednesday. The large vessel’s cargo holds have been secured, but firefighters have still to verify that any possible fire outbreak has been eliminated from the hold. The bulk carrier remains in Venice’s Fusina Terminal, near the thermal power plant operated by Enel. The fire is believed to have started due to spontaneous combustion.
