Rome - An acceleration on the coverage of raw materials storage facilities and a reduction in CO2 emissions. These are some of the environmental commitments in the addendum proposed by ArcelorMittal and presented today at the ILVA meeting at MISE. Below are the main additional commitments grouped by theme.

ENVIRONMENT
•Coverage of the storage areas is expected to be completed by June 2020: specifically, the coverage of the coal storage is now expected by June 2020 (at least 13 months ahead of schedule), and the iron ore storage by January 2020 (at least 18 months ahead of schedule);
•ArcelorMittal is committed to achieving a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne of liquid steel by 2023 compared to 2017 levels; •The group will continue to respect the production ceiling of 8 million tonnes of liquid steel after the end of the environmental and industrial remediation plan (which ends in 2023), provided that any further increase in production levels is achieved through the application of low-carbon production processes (such as natural gas);
•ArcelorMittal will ensure that ILVA’s environmental performance complies with Italian and European environmental legislation and is among the best in any integrated steel plant operating in Europe by implementing the environmental protection measures set forth in Prime Ministerial Decree 2017 and elsewhere;
•It will accelerate both investments and the subsequent start-up of a new €10 million research and development centre in Taranto, dedicated to the identification of new production technologies with lower environmental impact.

SUPPORT, INVOLVEMENT AND TRANSPARENCY TOWARDS LOCAL COMMUNITIES •ArcelorMittal will launch an annual collaboration between ARPA Puglia, ASL and AReS to carry out a health impact assessment study in Taranto and in the area surrounding the steelworks;
•It will introduce initiatives of transparency and information sharing addressed to local communities, to rebuild a relationship of trust and understanding, including the opening of the Taranto site for guided tours and frequent engagement with community representatives;
•It will invest up to €1 million per year for five years from the time it takes over ILVA, in support of health care and entrepreneurs.

EMPLOYMENT, SUPPLIERS AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY INITIATIVES
•ArcelorMittal will support the successful conclusion of the consultation process with the trade unions, taking into account the sustainability of the industrial turnaround plan for ILVA;
•It will promote the involvement of local suppliers where possible, and pay all suppliers in full and on time, through the application of best business standards with the ArcelorMittal Group;
•implement circular economy strategies and policies within its production processes, including maximising the use of recovered secondary products in the form of process gases, scrap metals and slag.
