Aldo Spinelli, a new terminal in Tuscany

Genoa - The head of Genoa’s Terminal Rebora is ready to invest in the new Piombino port with paper pulp and aluminum cargo traffic.

Genoa - The Port of Piombino is getting ready for the arrival of Aldo Spinelli. Details are still sketchy but an agreement that would extend the entrepreneur’s logistics business to this Tuscan port is in the final stages. According to Secolo XIX/The MediTelegraph, Mr. Spinelli is ready to invest in the new Piombino port with paper pulp and aluminum cargo traffic . For this purpose, he’s bringing in an anglo-dutch firm, one of the main operators in this sector, with an active presence in the North European market. Mr. Spinelli would only concede that his logistics group, “is always on the look out for new trading partnerships beyond those already underway.” A meeting between the partner and the port’s management is scheduled for September, which will cover the state of the port’s upgrading as well. The Piombino port is located in a logistically advantageous location in relation to the several paper mills in the Tuscan region. Spinelli has positioned himself in the best position to reap the benefits of a possible deal. Meanwhile the port is about to undergo an upgrade which includes expansion projects and Mr. Spinelli would also benefit from a completely improved infrastructure. The only sticking point is that it could take up to a year for the port to become operational again. Spinelli’s business activities at Genoa’s Rebora Terminal are doing well in terms of traffic: “Since the end of April, we’ve added a new line, operated by CMA-CGM in conjunction with MARFRET, which has brought to our docks two ships, the As Pegasus and the Taurus,”confirmed the head of the business group. This new route which also calls at Genoa, is for container transport bound for Mexico: “This should bring in a guaranteed 10 to 15 thousand extra TEUs per year,” estimated Mr. Spinelli. Another new venture could be on the cards for the genoese terminal, for now though, Mr Spinelli is as tight lipped about that as the possible financial partner entering into the group: “As I’ve said before, we make trade deals, not financial ones or plans to add new partners.” The move by Spinelli on Piombino follows one made by GIN (San Giorgio del Porto and Mariotti) in partnership with Saipem and Fratelli Neri, to invest in the naval dismantling and refitting sector. Without a doubt, Piombino seems set to become the Tuscan port of preference for Genoa.
