The Danish shipping group Maersk said it reported earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of 1.253 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2025, up from 177 million a year earlier, as it highlighted solid profitability in its Ocean business, operational improvements in Logistics & Services and higher volumes in Terminals.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization grew to 2.710 billion dollars from 1.590 billion while revenue for the quarter grew by 7.8% to 13.3 billion dollars. "We delivered strong results compared to the same quarter last year, driven by momentum in our operational efficiency and a global economy in good shape for the first three months. With trade tensions flaring up and uncertainty on the rise, global supply chains are once again in the spotlight," commented Vincent Clerc, ceo.

Maersk confirmed its guidance for the full year although it warned that increased uncertainty has led to a more cautious container volume growth outlook. The company continues to anticipate an underlying EBIT of 0-3.0 billion dollars and underlying EBITDA of 6.0-9.0 billion. Clerc said that Maersk is "doubling down on the work underway on automation and cost management to remain fit for what lies ahead. These efforts give us the confidence to deliver a result in line with our guidance communicated in February."
