Leghorn - “It wants to invest in Italy, and is looking at the port hub of Piombino with interest: there could be two objectives, to build a facility for the production of Formula GT3 race cars, and to create new synergies in the agri-food sector between Italy and Oman.” The Port System Authority of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea made the preceding announcement after Sheikh Nasser Bin Mohammed Al Hashar spent the day in Piombino. The Sheikh heads up a global conglomerate, Al Jazeera International Group (AIG) with innumerable interests in a great variety of sectors: from transport to infrastructure, from design to tourism, and he is not a person to take action without good reason. The Sheikh spoke with Port System Authority President Stefano Corsini. Al Hashar said, “The vision that you are developing here is interesting; you have serious plans for this port. We would like to be an integral part of this vision.” According to Nader Morsy, Elixir United Investment’s global investment chief, a company that was created to carry out investments in foreign markets for the Omani, the visit to Piombino served to “prospect possible opportunities to be pursued in two or three years.”
