Genoa - 35 Costa Cruises employees are willing to transfer to Hamburg, according to leaks that have emerged from sources close to the company. A meeting between the management and the unions came to an end a short time ago at the Genoese company’s headquarters. At the beginning of the year, the company announced its intention to transfer 70 people to its new hub in Hamburg. In total, 161 people are affected by Costa’s reorganisation, they work in maritime operations, the medical department, hotel maintenance and technical procurement.
Of these, 35 have said that they are willing to make the transfer (although no contract has been signed). 46 of those have said that they were unwilling or unable to be transferred, and the rest have not yet said anything. The number of workers who could be placed in other departments is 27. According to leaks, options are being studied together with the union for as many as 25 people: early retirements, non-renewal of fixed-term contracts, and placement with suppliers are being considered.
In any case, lips are sealed and no one coming out of the meeting has confirmed the numbers involved: “We are in a delicate phase of the negotiations,” explained Giacomo Santoro, FILT CGIL Genoa, “Our goal is to protect the interests of the contracts until they expire, and to protect the people who are transferred, and those who will remain. No contract has been signed, the negotiations are ongoing.”
