Rome - Grimaldi Lines has decided to adopt a new package of voluntary safety regulations for ferries, conceived by RINA Services. The package’s scheme includes all the fundamental aspects of safety on board passenger ships: the evaluation and reduction of the risk of fire, the management of maintenance, monitoring of operating conditions, management of bacteriological risks, reduction of risks linked to the breakdown of any individual component. In addition, it calls for careful and regular training for on-board and land-based personnel, considering the centrality of the human factor in the prevention of risks and in emergency situation management. The m/ship Florencia, which joined the Grimaldi Lines fleet in 2004, will be the first Italian unit to use the new package of regulations. The Florencia is a newly designed RO/PAX unit that can carry up to 954 passengers, 160 cars and 2,250 sqm of wheeled cargo. It has 96 internal and external cabins, all with private services, 199 chairs, a central lounge with a bar, cafeteria, playroom for children and a casino. It can travel at a speed of 23.5 knots and is currently used by the company three times per week on its Savona-Barcelona route.
