Tokyo - One year later than the expected delivery date, Mistubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has delivered the cruise ship AIDAprima to the German company AIDA Cruises, a brand of the American group Carnival Corporation. The ship was supposed to be delivered in March 2015, after construction began in the summer of 2013. The ship is first of two 125,000 gross ton ships ordered to the Japanese shipyard. “Given the avant-garde design of the ship,” said the chairman and CEO of MHI, “construction has been challenging, but in the end, we have built a top quality cruise liner, which offers to passengers comfort features and excellent entertainment.” The leaders of the shipyard have nonetheless admitted their lack of experience in the construction of this type of ship. The experience gained from the construction of this unit will be useful to the shipyard workers, who now have to build the sister ship of AIDAprima. AIDAprima, which flies the Italian flag, is 300 metres long, 37.6 metres wide, has 18 decks and 1,643 cabins. The ship can accommodate 3,286 passengers.
