Genoa - The Port Authority of Cagliari had a presence in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for Seatrade Cruise Global 2016, the most important international cruise ship tourism show. “There are great expectations for the development of the Port of Cagliari,” Roberto Isidori, who is Extraordinary Commissioner for the Port Authority of Cagliari, explained, “The shipping companies are waiting for the construction of the new terminal on the Molo Rinascita Wharf, which will officially open in the coming months. The terminal, which is being built by the Cagliari Cruise Port company exclusively with private capital, will increase our port’s receptive capacity and will support the creation of new services dedicated to cruise passengers and crews that call at Cagliari.”
The commissioner announced Cagliari’s membership in the international CLIA Network (the Cruise Line International Association), which is made up of the most important cruise lines and destination ports for cruise passengers in the world. Valeria Mangiarotti, who is Marketing Chief for the PA of Cagliari, explained, “Many people at Seatrade are watching the development of our port, and in particular, of the Sardinian port system because in recent years we have succeeded in carving out a niche for ourselves in the Central Mediterranean area, achieving the record figure of 300,000 cruise passengers transported. Cagliari’s rebirth is due to a mix of very high-level services, a geographical position that makes it a shelter port on the Suez-Gibraltar route, and the variety of tours and itineraries it serves. We are expecting to sign important contracts for calendar years 2017 and 2018 at this year’s Salone.”
