Cruise passengers on board an MSC ship in the port of Genoa

In 2024, Stazioni Marittime S.p.A., the company managing the cruise and ferry terminals in Genoa, recorded a total of 3,868,931 passengers, compared to the record of 4,048,777 in 2023. The ferry passenger count was 2,337,525, a slight decrease of 0.54% from 2,350,138 in 2023. Cruise passengers saw a more significant drop of 9.5%, falling to 1,531,406 from 1,698,639 in 2023. This decline was planned due to construction work on a new 376-meter pier on the east side of Ponte dei Mille, which made one dock unusable and reduced the number of ship calls.

For 2025, ferry traffic is expected to grow by 2-3%. Cruise traffic is expected to return to 1,700,000 passengers, with 700,000 home port passengers (embarking and disembarking in Genoa) and 1 million transit passengers, with a total of 333 ship calls. MSC Cruises is expected to handle around 1,200,000 passengers, remaining the largest cruise operator in the port. Costa Cruises is expected to make 52 calls with a total of 370,000 passengers.
