Genoa - The Onorato Group has announced its intention to further increase its presence at the Catania hub. Onorato operates six connections from Catania in addition to two others to and from the port of Palermo. The new Catania-Naples line, which makes six trips per week, three outward and three return trips, “will significantly contribute to shifting more than 300,000 trucks per year from road to sea, also affecting one of the most congested sections of motorway, the Salerno-Reggio Calabria route,” the company wrote in a release. The departures from Naples are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, with arrivals in Catania in the mid-morning and returns from Catania to Naples on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, always sailing at night. The ship used, the Hartmut Puschmann (Italian flagged and crewed) is equipped with a hundred cabins, and will be based at the Catania hub, where the group operates an important RO-RO terminal through Catania Port Services. A ship with similar characteristics which is also owned by the group will be used on the connection between Naples and Malta through the transhipment formula, with six journeys, three in and three out. And crossed departures on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On the route between Genoa, Livorno and Catania, the group increased its cargo offering to include two 3500-linear-metre RO-RO units.
