Trieste - Lay-offs for one hundred and forty Fincantieri employees at Castellammare di Stabia have been postponed. They were to become effective next Monday. Before starting the lay-off process, there will be a meeting on Friday, 15 January, at the headquarters of the Industrial Union of Naples. This decision emerged from the meeting at the Provincial Government between the unions, regional councillors Lepore and Palmeri, the Company Management, the Industrial Union, and the chief of staff of the Provincial Government. The postponement of lay-offs was decided, as Giovanni Sgambati, the General Secretary of UILM in Campania, explained, “after a commitment from the Region of Campania to look for solutions for Fincantieri by 15 January.” “This is very positive,” Sgambati stressed, “all the governmental institutions made commitments to find solutions to reduce the impact of lay-offs, but most importantly to guarantee more solid prospects for Fincantieri’s development.”
