Trieste - Fincantieri and Huarun Dadong Dockyard (HRDD), one of the leading Chinese shipyards specializing in ship repair and refitting activities, have further built-on their exclusive cooperation deal established in March of this year, by signing, as announced by Fincantieri, in recent days an agreement that defines and completes the terms of the collaboration. The agreement now includes the joint technical management of repair activities, dry-docking and conversions aimed at serving the cruise sector, thus opening the way for a first shared project.
Fincantieri has always focused its attention on market developments, and this agreement is, then, consistent with its strategy of penetrating emerging markets. In this regard, it’s useful to recall that in China today there are already 13 cruise ships owned by western companies operating continuously; these require on-site services that the new partnership will be able to offer, with this number expected to grow rapidly. The Chinese cruise industry is, in fact, experiencing rapid development, and in the next decade will expand significantly. The demand from the cruise ship sector for shipyards capable of handling repairs and companies with a proven track record in ship conversions and refitting is steadily increasing.
HRDD, equipped with modern facilities and strategically located close to the cruise terminal in Shanghai, has extensive experience and a wealth of expertise that make it particularly well suited to the cruise industry. Fincantieri, through its dedicated Ship Repair and Conversion business unit, will contribute its technical experience as a leading global operator in the cruise sector and, combined with HRDD’s cutting-edge infrastructure, will provide significant support for the nascent Chinese cruise industry.
