Mariotti-Drass alliance contracted by the Italian Navy for a Comsubin ship

Genova – T.Mariotti shipyards in Genova have signed a contract with Drass, the Livorno-based Drass group specializing in underwater technology, for the supply of underwater units to the navy. The Special and Diving Operations - Submarine Rescue Ship (Sddo-Surs: Special and Diving Operations - Submarine Rescue Ship) unit will be the response of the Navy and the national shipbuilding industry to support special operations, diving and rescue damaged submarines, in addition to the growing need to protect the underwater infrastructures of the Mediterranean.

The ship (the start of the works is still top secret) will provide support to the new generations of drones and submarines, also developed by Italian companies, as a result of the coordination that will be provided by the nascent national underwater hub: "Serving the defense industry making this ship is a source of prestige for our business and for Made in Italy as a symbol of manufacturing excellence - declares Marco Ghiglione, general manager of T. Mariotti-. We will deliver to the Italian Navy a project in which the best Italian professionals converge, such as that of Drass which will supply the underwater technology system, a characterizing element of the naval unit”.

The pivotal factor of the ship's capabilities will in fact be the Drass saturation immersion plant called Series 100. A system that will allow 12 divers from the Comsubin underwater operational group of the Navy to conduct saturation dives up to an altitude of 300 meters. However, the ship will also be employed in the civil sector, such as the search for polluting elements, the exploration of the seabed, support for marine archeology and the repair and structural maintenance of infrastructures laid on the seabed.

T.Mariotti shipyard will integrate sophisticated and technological tools on this advanced platform: thanks to the on-board sensors, the ship will be able to locate a damaged submarine resting on the bottom, to keep itself vertical through the use of the dynamic positioning system Dp (Dynamic Positioning) and provide assistance to personnel trapped on board through the Saver system, created by Saipem.
