Taranto - A small chance has opened on the horizon for an extension, until the end of the year, of the redundancy payment term for the 520 employees of former Taranto Container Terminal (TCT), the company which, until last year, held the concession for the Multi Use pier in the port of Taranto, and which in June 2015 was put into liquidation by its shareholders.
In a meeting at the Ministry of Labour chaired by Undersecretary Franca Biondelli, discussions were held on the possibility of extending unemployment benefit payments beyond the 11 September deadline until the start, on 1 January 2017, of the newly-created national administration agency that will handle port workers at Taranto, Gioia Tauro and Cagliari.
An extension of three and a half months for the employees of TCT, which constitutes a bridge solution to the agency’s launch while avoiding dismissal procedures for the 520 workers.
