Taranto, general cargo is growing
Taranto - In the month of September 2016,the Port of Taranto recorded a total increase in traffic of 21.4% compared to the same month last year, for a total of 1,904,426 tonnes moved (+335,627 tonnes). The greatest increase was in the movement of various goods, which saw a 45.3% increase (+131,201 tonnes)

The greatest increase was in the movement of various goods, which saw a 45.3% increase (+131,201 tonnes). Bulk cargo traffic also showed an increase compared to 2015, of +16% (+204,426 tonnes).
As a result, in the July-September 2016 quarter, +8.6% growth was recorded, which is consistent with the positive trend maintained in 2016, and further influenced by a slight decline in the month of August (-12.8%).
Regarding the first nine months of 2016, the total increase in the movement of goods is +17.6% (+2,880,267 tonnes of goods moved) compared to the same period in 2015. In particular, the movement of bulk goods increased by 17.4% (+2,265,817 tonnes). For general cargo, the increase was 18.3% (+614,450 tonnes). RO-RO traffic has also been active in the Port of Taranto since 19 September 2016, operated by Grimaldi Lines. In the month of September alone, 385 wheeled vehicles were moved, for a total of 6,441 tonnes. From 24 October, Grimaldi Lines, using the same RO-RO line that calls at the port of Taranto, will also launch a container service.
