Genova - With 1,126,089 containers handled from January to June 2018, the port of Genoa has recorded 5.7% more than the 1,065,000 TEUs it achieved in the first half of 2017, confirming that it is the driving force in the city’s economy.

The only port traffic that did not grow in the first half of 2018 was industrial solid bulk cargo, down 9.7% compared to the first half of 2017, but of course a coal-fired power plant in Genoa has closed and traffic in steel products has been reduced.

Total cargo handled at the port of Genoa rose from 22,541,552 in June 2017 to 23,569,090 in June 2018, of which 15,107,784 was general merchandise (+4%), 1,128,924 was solid bulk (-9.7%), 306,412 was liquid bulk (+10%), 6,379,705 mineral oil (+8.4%), and 409,256 bunker and on-board supplies (+9.6%). The number of vessels that arrived in the port during the first half of the year rose slightly from 2,471 to 2,488, an increase of 0.7%.
